Did you know…?

Drop these at your next County dinner — ideally one of ours.

01The County is (almost) an island

Prince Edward County is nearly surrounded by water — joined to the mainland by a causeway at Carrying Place and, on the east, only by a ferry.

02The Glenora Ferry is free — and ancient

It has crossed the Bay of Quinte since the early 1800s, and it still won’t cost you a cent.

03A lake on top of a mountain

Lake on the Mountain sits about 60 m above the Bay of Quinte with no obvious source — a mystery for generations.

04World-class sand dunes

Sandbanks holds one of the largest baymouth barrier dune systems on the planet — freshwater dunes you can climb.

05Its own wine country

The County is one of Ontario’s official wine regions, prized for limestone-rich soils, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

06A future PM started here

A young Sir John A. Macdonald cut his teeth as a lawyer in Picton before his political career took off.

07A battlefield namesake

Picton is named for Sir Thomas Picton, a British general who fought and fell at the Battle of Waterloo.

08A whole city… for birds

At Macaulay Mountain you’ll find “Birdhouse City” — dozens of elaborate birdhouses modelled on real landmarks.

09A century-old movie house

Picton’s Regent Theatre on Main Street has entertained the County for roughly a hundred years.

Eat. Drink. Play.
